Roncalli girls basketball is returning from a great season last year, and they show no sign of stopping. The team is led by the senior trio of Abbie and Sofie Carr, alongside Indiana Junior All-Star Madelyn Bischoff. Most of the team this year is filled with young players that have little varsity experience.

“With only three seniors, we had to bring a lot of younger girls up, and the preseason helped us get used to playing with each other and grow that bond that would help us be successful,” said Abbie Carr.

One of those younger girls on the team is sophomore Sydney Horton, who is the only player on the team to have started in every single game of her Roncalli career. Those four, however, are the only members of the team that have experience as varsity starters. Despite that, the team was able to start the season off with a dominant performance over Beech Grove, winning 75-31. The season opener was the 1,000th game of the program, and the team didn’t disappoint. During the opening game, Bischoff became only the 12th girl at Roncalli to score over 1000 points, bringing her closer to the top ten scorers in the program’s history. The younger members of the varsity team put forth a great performance with underclassmen Horton, Jordan Hendricks, Savanna Bischoff, Ansley Bishop putting forth a combined 26 points for the team.

The girls were able to secure their second victory of the season on November 12 over Pike, winning 53-37. The team’s third and win came over Perry Meridian boosting their record to a perfect 3-0, a strong and hopeful start to the season.
