The Roncalli Royals are excited for the new season led by head coach Jamin Wernke. Although the Royals lost four of the starting five, they’re determined for a comeback this season. Senior Drew Kegerreis and Charlie Elsener have some big shoes to fill in being the only seniors. This being Kegerreis’s last season, the 6”3 athlete has a bright future ahead of him and is ready to show what it means to be a leader.
“I hope when looking back on this year, I can say that not only did we win a lot of games, but our younger guys in the program are prepared to do even greater things after I graduate,” Kegerreis said.
The Royals young core is expected to improve, led by competitive juniors Judd Selke, Noah Schmaltz, Luke Greene, and Eli Lauck. They’re looking to deliver new skills, along with sophomores Conner Kesler, and 6”7 Joe Taylor looking to build off his freshman year.
“I’m looking forward to proving myself this year, becoming a better player, getting more college looks as well as having a winning season, and to win the county championship,” Taylor said.
Along with freshman Will Hegwood who is coming in with great athleticism and ready to show off his skills and mobility this season.
“I’m looking forward to playing with guys like Drew and Noah, and the other upperclassmen. I think I can learn a lot from them all. I’m also looking forward to playing against good competition throughout the season,” Hegwood said.
