Theology teacher Mrs. Amy Garro has enjoyed the first few weeks of teaching at Roncalli High School.
Growing up in Portage, Michigan, Garro has always wanted to be a theology teacher.
“Having a strong religious background with my family has only strengthened the urge I have to be a theology teacher,” Garro said.
Though Garro had a religious family, she attended Portage Central High School.
“Because private school was expensive and the public school was advanced, my parents did not pay for Catholic education,” Garro said.
Garro has a background in both art and Catholic education.
“I taught both sewing, and art lessons, and taught at Lumen Christi Catholic School throughout my life,” Garro said.
Garro believes the larger student body at Roncalli versus Lumen Christi positively influences her teaching style.
“It is a lot easier to do group work with the larger population, and I change the seating chart once every two weeks to allow everyone to get to know each other,” Garro said.
Overall, Garro loves her teaching experience so far here at Roncalli.
“I love seeing everyone’s diverse personalities at Roncalli. I also enjoy learning about the teaching styles of each teacher,” said Garro.
