This year’s soccer season not only brought new challenges for the soccer teams, it also brought many new athletes. As the season comes to an end for Junior JV, JV still continues to play. This year’s coach for JJV soccer was Danny Ablog.
When the season began, Ablog noticed a couple of new changes regarding the number of athletes in soccer and their willingness to stay after practices for additional work.
“We had 13-15 this year. And a good amount of kids are staying after than last year,” Ablog said.
Ablog hopes to accomplish this season to train JJV for new heights. He hopes to develop the JJV team for Varsity and JV. This year’s captain of the JV soccer team is sophomore Sam Smith, and for the JJV team, it’s freshman Marcus Schnieder. Throughout the season both teams improved in different ways. However, both team captains mainly focus on improving as a team.
“Our communications have gone up,” Schnieder said. “[We have grown] individually and as a team not so much as wins and losses but how we perform as a team.”
Smith thinks more about how they improved technically in the game.
“Defensively and getting to know our teammates’ play and the style of play has improved,” Smith said. “Probably to improve as best as we can to make sure we can achieve the best we can to be good at soccer.”
The team continued to work hard as they faced many challenges throughout the season. Both team captains’s challenges they faced were related to other schools or how they handled losses. The preseason training had many different practices and activities during the summer.
“We definitely did a lot of conditioning and running,” said Smith. “Lots of passing and different dribbling drills to help improve our touch on the ball. We did scrimmage a lot so we can have a lot of in-game experience. We scrimmaged against a few other schools, and competed against other schools.”
As the season continues for JV, JV’s record is 4 wins and 6 losses. While JJV’s season ended with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses. Both teams hope to grow individually and as a team to do their best.
