The Roncalli JV football team is pursuing another year of competition while being led by a new head coach.
Sophomore Kallen Stahley believes his team is well coached by head coach Sam Otley and ready for the season ahead.
“Discipline is one major way our new varsity coach has affected our team,” Stahley said. “If your team does not have discipline, then your team has nothing. It could fall at any minute and Coach Otley has done a great job of instilling discipline in his football team this year.”
Sophomore linebacker Will Clark plays alongside the leadership of his fellow upperclassmen on a weekly basis.
“The captains are the leaders on this team,” Clark said. “They earned the right to be leaders, they were voted for by the rest of the team. Since we’ve been lifting in the winter, they’ve led us through the workouts. A lot of them are the best at their position. They are unselfish.”
Part of the Roncalli tradition is co-practices between JV and varsity. Sophomore Zach Hellinga finds these practices beneficial.
“It helps us by facing someone way better than the team we face on Saturdays. The level of play is easier,” Hellinga said.
As of September 23, the JV football team is currently 2-2 with their next opponent against Brebeuf.
