The Bishop Chartrand Gymnasium, built in 1962, has been closed for the first part of the school year due to a damaged gym floor.
Mr. Kevin Banich, Roncalli’s principal and overseer of the project, provided a reason as to why the floor has been damaged.
“[The floor] has popped up because the glue is no longer attached to the concrete,” Banich said.
Due to the separation, there have been many practices and games canceled, along with in-school events moved to the Ascension St. Vincent Gymnasium.
“This will affect practice times and game locations,” Banich said. “We were planning on having mass in BCG but not able to this year. In addition, our pep rallies will be moved to the ASV.”
All of these questions have naturally led to the same thought, wondering when the gym may be finished and ready for use.
“It will be out of service for the majority of the first semester and hopefully back around the middle of second semester,” Banich said.
The BCG is a necessity to Roncalli, the floor being repaired is one way Roncalli is improving the school.
