The freshman volleyball team has made an impression on students and staff. People are eager to see what they accomplish next.
Freshman Cary Feldman and the team are currently working on modifying their playing techniques since the players are new to the program. They all have to step out of their comfort zone this season and are attempting many unfamiliar things.
“My team is currently working on adjusting to our new positions because some players haven’t played these new positions yet, so they have to work on new skills they don’t normally do,” Feldman said.
Before this season, Sydney Martens and the freshman players did many things leading up to the tryouts and their season to help them become the best they could be. Before their season began they trained and played in countless places and participated in program events.
“Almost all of us played CYO volleyball, as well as playing club volleyball,” Martens said. “Also, we all attended workouts everyday during the summer which improved us in many different ways.”
The team has experienced both successes and challenges. One of their biggest challenges was confidence and the mental challenges. As their season has gone on they are continuing to improve within both of those topics.
“One challenge our team has faced in volleyball is our mentality,” freshman Ella Cadwalladar said. “Oftentimes, if we would mess up we would get in our head and tell ourselves we can’t do it. Recently we have worked on being positive and going out on the court with confidence. We have learned that if we go out on the court scared, we will not play to our ability, but if we play with confidence our team will play well and it will carry towards others.”
