While preparing for a new season, show choir director, Mrs. Shannan Masten, and dance captain, senior Ellie Ohime, are excited about the year’s program.
Masten believes that building a strong bond within the ensemble is essential for creating a successful performance season.
“The main thing we do to prepare as a group is bonding,” Masten said, “If we don’t have a good social bond, we won’t function well as an ensemble. We have to be a family first, performance ensemble second. After we have bootcamp and bond, we start conditioning and learning choreo and music for the new season!”
One of the best parts of show choir is the unique friendships that form within the group.
“My favorite part of show choir is the family bond that we form throughout the long season,” Ohime said, “We get so close to each other and it makes the long competition weekends so much better.”
Helping each performer feel confident is a big part of creating a successful experience.
“I do my best to remind them of their God-given talents and encourage them to perform to the best of their ability,” Masten said, “The coolest thing about being a singer/performer is that each individual is their own instrument, and is the only one to ever exist with their set of abilities. Do that times 40-50 people in a choir and magic happens!”
