As this year has come along it has brought new faces to the boys’ swimming and diving team. The team has high hopes to continue to improve and aim higher in their season. They are led by senior Ben Kruse and junior Ben McGaha.
The team has seen many successes and improvements during this year, including McGaha’s placements at county and conference.
“I’ve dropped a bunch of time and placed 6th in county and 1st in conference,” said McGaha.
Their second swim meet at Cardinal Season was a great motivation booster after a loss. With the team placed 3rd and having 7 lifetime bests, 5 season best and even winning an individual event.
The season has brought promising new athletes including freshmans and returning faces. Freshman Espn Schacht who has done well this season continues to improve and persevere in challenges.
“I’ve dropped time, working on turns, and continuing the work when things get hard,” said Schacht.
Schacht is on the varsity boy’s swimming and diving team. He finds it a great way to improve himself as a swimmer, and is motivated to get better.
“Awesome, I get to push myself against faster people and kids in high school,” said Schacht, “Wanting to get better and I’m really competitive and I want to win.”
Some challenges that the swimmers face consist of scheduling, practice, and improving.
“The scheduling and practicing everyday is a challenge,” said Freshman AJ Duge.
“Some challenges I faced are getting used to the practice and the new style of practices,” said Schacht.
The team has done well at different events throughout the season. In their swim meet at Speedway and Cardinal Ritter they had 4 of their athletes have their lifetime bests and 4 individual wins proving their success during the season.
As the season comes along the team hopes to reach high goals this year like sectionals, finals and getting their best times. Sophomore Mason Schnarr hopes to reach his best time.
“Getting top 10 on all time,” said Schnarr.
