With the season three-fourths of the way done, Royal freshman boys are continuing with a 10-7 record.
The team went up against the Decatur Central Hawks early in the season. They came out with a win with a score of 44-19. The game was described as a high-energy game by freshman Jimmy Kessenich.
“My favorite game of the season was when we played Decatur Central because of how good the energy and how we were playing was,” Kessenich said. “It was probably the best we have played all season and it was a whole team effort.”
As the team has faced losses they have also pulled off great wins.
“My goal for the season was to have a winning season with the team,” freshman Jagger Rund said.
Before the season even started freshman Dane Burton had many goals.
“My goal for this season was to have as much fun as possible. Also competing and becoming a better basketball player and person,” Burton said.
On Mondays, the team starts practices with film. At practices, the team mainly focuses on plays and free throws.
“We usually start with shooting around and then go into getting loose by doing a 3 man weave. Then after that we go throw our plays and then we scrimmage,” freshman Charlie Neu said.
On game days the team eats a meal provided by parents together.
“Game day meals are eaten together as a team and help us get mentally ready for the games,” freshman Lincoln Tedway said.
“The meals are always really good and are a great way to start the day of a game,” Kessenich said. “After eating we usually just talk about our day or what is going on. Then we get mentally locked in for the game on the bus ride to the game or before the game if it is at home.”
The team is nearing the end of their season with 7 games left.
