A common problem many students have is losing their student ID card. Whether it’s due to the backpack ban, getting it stolen by friends, or lack of organization, students find that they have a hard time keeping track of their ID.
There are some students who are able to find their ID card fairly easily, and some who have never misplaced their card. People have suggested the best places to keep it are in a wallet, pencil case, lanyard, or clipped to belt loops on uniform pants. It is recommended that students find a place that works best for them.
“A lanyard is best for me because it’s on me and I can look down and see it,” freshman Caroline Bellew said. “No one can steal it when it’s on my neck, too.”
One way students can keep organized is to consider if the student ID card is kept in a safe place. Some people have come to the conclusion that keeping their ID card on them is safer than most other places.
“It’s a very safe place if it’s with me 24/7,” junior Esther Niang said. “Put it somewhere you will know where to find it, somewhere obvious for you to remember. Don’t give it to a friend either, they could rip it up or do something bad to it.”
There are also many students who would say knowing the location of their ID card comes as a challenge. To solve this problem, trying other methods and storing the ID in different locations, can lead the individual to finding their ideal solution. Others agree that it is better if it’s not on then so the likelihood of losing it is lower. If they find that they lose it while keeping their ID on them, then they should consider leaving it in their lockers. Maybe even in a pocket of their backpack, stored in their locker, during the day.
“Switching out supplies throughout the day will cause me to lose track of its location, even if I were to have it on me,” junior Lexi Nalley said.
Students also have advice for their fellow peers. There are two main suggestions people have concerning the student ID. One is to consider safe places, second is to stay tidy.
Students can stay tidy by arranging their supplies and placing their ID in an accessible location if they will carry it around. If they leave their ID card in their locker, then they should make sure it does not get hidden under books and binders. It always has the possibility of getting picked up accidentally and unknowingly losing it.
“Try to be more organized, really,” Nalley said. “If you find a safe place for it and leave it there, you will most likely be able to find it; therefore, not lose it.”
