After spending eighteen years teaching at various schools, Ms. Kathy Douglass feels at home at Roncalli High School. Teaching so many different people from middle school to high school, public school to private school, Ms. Kathy Douglass has done it all. Teaching AP/CP Environmental Science, Douglass made the switch because of the positive experience her kids are having.
Douglass has two children, a sixth and fourth grader, who attend Nativity. Being a mom and coach within the school has allowed her to make connections with Roncalli coaches, alumni, and other people in the community.
“I just really grew to like what I saw in people after they graduated from Roncalli and sort of the community, and I wanted that for my kids. So I made that shift,” Douglass said.
Douglass also described the welcoming feeling she has experienced being at Roncalli. Since she is new to teaching science, she was skeptical about how the department would react. However, not only the science department, but the whole school, has been more than welcoming.
“I was worried because I’m weird. I’ve taught lots of different subjects and licenses, but everybody’s been so warm and welcoming,” Douglass said.
Douglass feels a sense of all-school support and attempts to strive to follow the mission of Pope John XXIII. Students, staff, faculty, and families are all one community.
“There’s this whole community buy-in, to what we’re trying to, you know, what the mission or goal of Roncalli is and following Pope John XXIII,” Douglass said.
