The Roncalli boys’ soccer team has started its season at 6-6. They just recently lost in the second round of the Marion County Tourney to Franklin Central.
They have played strong teams so far and have won some challenging games, while also losing others. Overall, the season has gone pretty well, according to players. They start sectionals next week.
“So far, I think we are doing really well. We have lost games, but they’ve been against good teams, and we have held our own against them. I think we could’ve won one or two more than we did but you can’t win them all. But overall I’m happy with how it’s going so far,” junior Connor Reilly said.
Senior Jonny Harlow leads them in goals this season, and they are led in assists by senior Cole Huff. The seniors lead the team very well and make sure they keep the team in line.
“The seniors are great leaders. They all are very nice and play well with each other and myself on the field. The chemistry they help build in us is also great, they are also great individual players as well,” junior Connor Reilly said.
The team was expecting to advance far in the Marion County Tournament, and they also expect to do well in sectionals.
“I have high expectations for this year. I know this year will be good because of the way we play with so much energy. I’m expecting to go far in the Marion County tournament and go pretty far in sectionals as well,” junior Sam Smith said.
Many of the soccer players joined the team this year because they have played all their lives and play for a club team.
“I’ve played soccer ever since I was a kid, so it was a no-brainer to join it,” sophomore Paul Thang, who also plays for the FC Pride club team said.
