Exchange Students Victoria Gonzalez Grimaldi and Valeria Gutierrez Dugue are spending their junior year at Roncalli High School.
Coming from Spain, Gonzalez Grimaldi feels her first month of experience has been a good one.
“My experience has been more positive. It was a bit hard the first day because it is very different from my school in Spain, but it has been OK,” Gonzalez Grimaldi said.
At their new school, Gonzalez Grimaldi and Gutierrez Dugue are excited to feel connected to the school by trying out for sports and joining new clubs.
“Victoria and I are trying the musical, and we do the makeup on it. I also want to try new sports, and it would be cool to try cheerleading,” Gutierrez Dugue said.
Starting the school year off strong, Gutierrez Dugue and Gonzalez Grimaldi have set their goals to achieve for the year.
“My goal is to learn English, be less shy, improve in my running for cross country, and have fun.” Gonzalez Grimaldi said.
Even though she is far from home, Gutierrez Dugue feels this experience has made her feel more for things at home.
“Being here makes me open my mind because all the days and years are the same. It makes me think about how other people live, not just in Spain. It also helps me appreciate things in my country and my family because I don’t see them as often.” Gutierrez Dugue said.
