Pep rallies are center stage at Roncalli, and behind the scenes, people work hard to make sure students have a lot to cheer about.
One of those people behind the scenes is social studies teacher Mrs. Erin Bohn. Bohn coordinates and finds activities for upcoming pep rallies.
“Guidance counselor Mrs. Engle and I meet together usually two weeks in advance to kick around ideas,” Bohn said. “People also send us suggestions and we find some ideas on social media. We toss around ideas and try to make things work.”
Bohn thinks that pep rallies help make Roncalli different from other schools, and they help the students have some fun.
“I think it is a fun way for kids to let loose. They unite our school, and it makes Roncalli unique. Some schools don’t get these things,” Bohn said.
Many people are excited and looking forward to more pep rallies. Freshman Sydney Schoettle expressed her thoughts on the pep rally that took place in August.
“I think the freshmen were all kind of embarrassed to cheer at first,” Schoettle said. “I think the whole school did really well, and I think it all will get better and better as we continue to do pep rallies.”
Freshman cheerleader Ava Price participates in the pep rally, and she helps lead the freshman in cheers and chants.
“I think we make it a lot more spirited because we are the people who start the chants, and we pump everyone up,” Price said. “Without the cheerleaders, it won’t be as spirited.”
As a freshman, Price was experiencing her first pep rally, but senior cheerleader Isabelle Fletcher has been cheering for four years. Fletcher talked about the lessons learned through pep rallies.
“I have learned to just go out there and not be afraid to put myself out there, to have fun, and to just be myself,” Fletcher said.
