To celebrate the National Blue Ribbon School Award and walkathon on November 8, Roncalli held a design competition for a theme idea and t-shirt design for the fundraiser with a $50 cash prize. Senior Abby Moll won the walkathon theme contest and freshman Simon Inkenbrandt had the best t-shirt design.
Both Moll’s theme idea and Inkenbrandt’s t-shirt design recognized the school’s 4th National Blue Ribbon Schools award and Jesus.
Moll’s theme idea was “Nationally Blue, Walking for You. Inkenbrandt created the winning design based on Molls theme.
“My design is a blue ribbon with the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the middle and footprints on the red and blue streamers,” said Inkenbrandt.
When Moll and Inkenbrandt heard their names on the announcements they were excited to know they won the competition. Moll had a history with theme ideas for the school.
“I was ecstatic! I have submitted theme ideas in past years and have never won this contest before. It was such an honor to finally win it,” Moll said.
While Inkenbrandt was not only eager but optimistic about winning the contest.
“I did not think I was going to win the contest, Inkenbrandt said. “I just thought it would be fun. So it was very exciting when I heard in the announcements that I won! It gave me confidence that I can achieve things if I try hard enough.”
With the $50 cash prize, the winners had different ideas for using the money. Inkenbrandt will save his money for something special, and Moll spent the money on a new sweatshirt.
Both winners enjoy challenges and find their reason to enter the competition.
“ I decided to enter the competition because there is no shame in trying. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” said Moll.
Inkenbrandt likes graphic design and found the contest was a way to hone his skills.
“I entered the competition because I am interested in graphic design and I think it was a good opportunity to work on my skills. I enjoy design challenges like these,” said Inkenbrandt.
