The Royals will continue their 34-0 winning streak this weekend in Muncie. They play Angola (32-4) at 4:30 p.m. in the state championship at the Irving Gym on the campus of Ball State University.
Senior Logan Bell does many things to prepare for big games against strong opponents, like Angola.
“We are watching lots of film of Angola to know how they play,” Bell said. “Mentally, we are taking in every single moment because it’s our last week. We are trying to have fun and make lots of memories while we can.”
Junior Addie Haberthy and her team set big goals for the team at the beginning of the season.
“Our biggest goal is to win state because it’s what we’ve worked for all along,” Haberthy said. “We’ve all put our blood, sweat, and tears into the program, and we all want to finish this season the best way possible.”
There are many things that junior Lily Jones and her team did to prepare for some of the biggest games of the season.
“We focused on our mechanics and endurance,” Jones said. “The further we get on the way to state, the harder teams will be, so preparing our bodies for those harder games was a top priority.”
Preparing mentally for such a big game is a key to Bell’s success.
“Before a big game, I like to pray and read from the Bible,” Bell said. “One of my favorite verses is Matthew 6:34. It helps me put into perspective that God is above all and He loves me no matter the result of the match.”
