Christmas is a widely celebrated holiday, which results in many people decorating for it. The main decoration or attraction in people’s homes during this time typically being a Christmas tree. Since most people put up this item, it is decorated differently and also holds traditions that vary from family to family.
Most people put up their Christmas tree anywhere from after Halloween and leave it up to January. There are households who make an exception.
“My family doesn’t want to go through the trouble of taking our tree down and putting it back up every year,” sophomore Matilda Waltz said. “We just change the decorations for the different seasons and holidays.”
A major difference from Christmas trees is the way people decorate and what ornaments they use.
“My favorite ornaments are the ones I made when I was little,” freshman Carolyn Svrcek said. “They hold good memories of the past.”
Everyone holds different traditions, especially during Christmas. Traditions weave in and out of activities and sometimes even decorating. A common tradition is hanging up decorations on a Christmas tree that represent departed loved ones.
“We first hang up the ornaments of those we have lost,” junior Emma Chamblee said. “So we put up ornaments for my mom’s three miscarriages and my pap-pap’s first. It’s nice, we all gather around and then we hang up ours after theirs.”
