WINTER WONDERLAND: At Newfields, Christmas lights are wrapped around the trees. Here is a close up of some of these lights when it is dark outside.

Because winter break is coming soon, there are many Christmas themed events for people to go to for some holiday cheer.

One of these holiday events is Christmas at the Indianapolis Zoo. Since 1967, the Indianapolis Zoo has displayed special lights for people to enjoy during the holidays, and they have added additional activities as years have passed by.

For example, you can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus in Santa’s Village, and you can get some hot chocolate. Because this holiday event is taking place at the zoo, you can meet some of the penguins at Santa’s Village from 6-8 pm.

Now in their 53rd year of this tradition, new decorations are being added, and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir will be singing carols by the campfires available, adding to the Christmas spirit of the event.

If you are interested in this Christmas event, you can buy tickets online at indyzoo.doubleknot.com. Tickets for adults cost $25.75; tickets for seniors (62+) cost $23.75, and tickets for children (2-12) cost $21.75. You can get more information about Christmas at the Zoo at indianapoliszoo.com/events.

While Christmas at the Zoo is a great opportunity to see lights and partake in holiday activities, Christmas Night of Lights at the Indiana State Fairgrounds is another option.

This holiday event lasts from December 7th to January 2nd, so you can come see the lights even after Christmas. Unlike Christmas at the Zoo, you drive around to see the light show instead of walking, and Christmas music will be played through your car stereo when viewing the lights, which will be in sync with the music. Since there are over 1 million Christmas lights at the event, you will likely have an interesting view as you’re driving.

Admission to Christmas Night of Lights costs $30 and up per vehicle. You can find out more information about this event at visitindy.com/indianapolis-christmas-nights-of-lights.

Christmas at the Zoo and Christmas Night of Lights aren’t the only light shows in Indy. At Newfields, they will be having their annual Christmas light display, Winterlights until January 2nd.

Although Winterlights will be open for a while, it is best to buy tickets in advance before the event gets booked. Tickets for adults cost $25 if you aren’t already a member of Newfields, and they cost $17 for children between ages 6-17. You can find more information about buying tickets at discovernewfields.org/winterlights.
