The Unified Polar Plunge was hosted by Roncalli High School on the circle during 5th and 6th periods on Friday, February 27, 2026. By integrating the event into the school day, the community successfully raised awareness and built unity while injecting much-needed excitement into the daily routine. This initiative rallied the entire campus community to demonstrate shared commitment to Special Olympics Indiana while raising vital funds for the cause.
“Roncalli has had Unified Sports since 2016. Roncalli’s administration is always looking for ways to further our mission as a Catholic school, and Champions Together is a great avenue to serve and promote inclusion as a community,” Mrs. Michelle Roberts said.
Roncalli is a part of Champions Together which is a collaborative partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Indiana that promotes servant leadership among students with and without intellectual disabilities.
“The Polar Plunge is an opportunity to raise awareness and promote our belief that “it’s always better when we do it together”!!” Roberts said.
This year, Roncalli’s Campus Ministry and the Royal Buddies club have joined forces to support Special Olympics Indiana as their designated Lenten Almsgiving project. The original goal was $5,000, which exceeds the standard $1,500 minimum required for high schools to earn the Champions Together banner. As for now the new amount exceeds $5,600, which is more than the original goal.
