TO THE MAT: Junior Bryce Lowery faces off with Junior Romeo White of Lawrence North on Senior Night in December. Lowery won the match by major decision 10-0 and the Royals won the duel 73-6.

After an eventful Saturday at New Castle’s fieldhouse, the Royals will send five wrestlers to the state tournament beginning Friday, February 18th.

The team came into the semi-state tournament energized from their previous victories at sectionals and regionals, placing first place at both and sending 12 of 14 wrestlers into semi-state. Regional champions were found in Sophomore Braden Getz, Juniors Bryce Lowery and Luke Hansen, and Seniors Drew Willis, Kody Glithero, and Justin Lewis. Along with those champions, six other wrestlers also moved on to the New Castle tournament including Seniors Andrew Stuck, Zach Wilson, and Sam Peeples.

Winning their second match of the day, Getz, Lowery, Glithero, Hansen, and Lewis all secured their spots in the state finals tournament. Following these wins, Lowery, Glithero, and Hansen went on to become Semi-State champions at the New Castle tournament. As a team, the Royals placed 2nd with 117.5 points.
