The girls’ basketball team has had a great start to the season, with a record of 13-3. Part of the reason for the Royals’ excellent start is the leadership that has guided them.
Team captians provide that leadership. Being a captain means that the coach and players have faith in them to help lead the team to victory. They help encourage the team and hype them up when they don’t exactly want to hear it from the coaches. Seniors Reagan Turk, Lydia Stanley, Brennah Cerny, Catie Rosko, and junior Elliot Leffler are the five captains of the team this year.
“ Being a captain on this team is special. Oftentimes, I feel like some of our players need to hear from the captains rather than the coaches, and I truly believe that is what makes this team so successful,” Turk said.
As the only junior captain of the team, Leffler takes her role seriously.
“I just think it is super special to be a leader of an amazing team and do it with the best teammates. It means a lot to be selected as a captain, but at the end of the day, you do not have to be a captain to lead the team; leadership is a choice. I’m just honored to be put in a captain position.”
